Iromuji
Kimono
(undecorated
kimono of any color
)
Iromuji Kimono is not decorated, a simple
form of Kimono which is dyed
with one or gradated color and has only
woven pattern on it.
Although it is considered today that Tomesode
( black formal kimono
) and Furisode ( a long sleeved kimono ) are
most decent forms, Iromuji
actually used to be classed as the highest one
and had been worn on most
important events such as marriage ceremony and
funeral. We can see some
remnants of this simplicity on Shiromuku (
immaculately white kimono for
bride) and Mofuku ( black mourning kimono
).
Iromuji is also very useful in terms of its
flexibility; with or without
family emblem or combination with various
types of Obi makes it suitable
for any occasions.
For example, if it goes with a Fukuro-Obi (
double-woven Obi ), it
can be used for tea ceremony and auspicious
events.
On the other hand, if combined with a black or
gray Obi, it can be
wore on funeral wake and memorial
service.
